Infant Mental Health
What is Infant Mental Health?
Mental Health
Mental health is often linked with mental illness, however these two terms are very different. Mental health involves the ability to function successfully in daily activities, build healthy relationships, and effectively manage life's challenges. Mental health can also be referred to as "social, emotional, and cognitive well-being".
Mental Illness
Mental illness on the other hand, refers to all mental disorders and conditions that have been diagnosed by a doctor involving changes in an individual's emotions, thinking, and behaviour. This can cause problems with daily functioning.
Infant Mental Health
Infant mental health is similar to mental health, however, it focuses on a specific age group of 0-3. It refers to how well a child develops emotionally and socially within the first three years of life.
